Appalachian by birth but reared in the Pacific Northwest, Joshua Conkel is a queer screenwriter and filmmaker now based in Los Angeles. He has written for Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and Dead Boy Detectives.
His short film Curmudgeons (directed by and starring Danny DeVito) premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival. You can watch it here. His queer horror short, He Watches, played in film festivals around the world, including OutFest and Inside Out Toronto. His next short, a gothic romance entitled Spoons, is currently in Post.
Joshua writes at the intersections of spooky, funny and sad, YA and adult, high brow and low brow, kitschy and earnest. He loves punk rock, interior design, Southern food, b-movies, literary fiction, and art films. His taste is extremely queer and his writing runs the gamut.
